The Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit is the manifestation of God's power directed to fulfil any special purpose, particularly His redeeming work. It was by the Holy Spirit that God revealed His purpose to the Hebrew prophets. It was by the Holy Spirit that Jesus was conceived and when grown enabled to speak authoritatively his Father's words and perform great miracles.
The gift of the Holy Spirit enabled the apostles to preach the gospel and attest their teaching by wonderful works.
Nowhere in the Bible is the Holy Spirit spoken of as a separate entity having an existence in its own right.
“for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21).
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16).
“And the angel answered and said to her, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the son of God” (Luke 1:35).
“And John bore witness, saying, 'I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he remained upon him. I did not know him, but he who sent me to baptise with water said to me, “Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, this is he who baptises with the Holy Spirit.” ‘And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God’” (John 1:32-34).
“. . . how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him” (Acts 10:38).
“'. . . for John truly baptised with water, but you shall be baptised with the Holy Spirit not many days from now' . . . 'But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you shall witnesses to me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth’” (Acts 1:5-8).
“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:2-4).
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19,20 RSV).
